We are seeking a highly motivatedInterior Design Professional with 3 to 5 years of experience, particularly in Life Sciences and Education interiors. This role provides hands-on involvement in all phases of interior design, from concept development to construction administration. As an integral member of the team, you’ll collaborate with our project partners and clients, showcasing your expertise in interior environments for laboratory, research, and workplace settings, and contributing to projects that emphasize design excellence and functional innovation.
Our Work
OLSON LEWIS + Architects works across various sectors, including Life Sciences, Education, Residential, Hospitality,Animal Care, and Commercial Workplace Design. This position will primarily focus on Life Sciences and Education interiors, ensuring that highly technical environments are functional and thoughtfully designed to support research, collaboration, and innovation. While this will be the primary focus, we encourage candidates to share their specific design interests as we strive to align talents with projects that inspire professional growth.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with the interior design and architecture teams to develop creative solutions for Life Sciences, workplace, and commercial projects.
- Implement space planning, furniture layouts, and conceptual design, ensuring functional and aesthetic alignment with project goals.
- Select and specify finishes, furniture, lighting, and materials, focusing on durability, sustainability, and research-specific requirements.
- Prepare and update interior design presentations, including mood boards, material palettes, and digital renderings.
- Develop 3D models, visualizations, and Revit documentation to communicate design intent.
- Work closely with architects, engineers, and lab planners to integrate interior elements seamlessly into complex research and workplace environments.
- Develop construction documentation, millwork details, and FF&E specifications.
- Lead client presentations, internal design reviews, and project coordination meetings.
- Support the Construction Administration process, ensuring that design intent is successfully executed.
Work Environment
Our team values collaboration, creativity, and mentorship, and we believe in the benefits of working in-person to foster meaningful professional growth. We offer flexibility, with many employees working Monday through Thursday in the office or remotely one to two days a week. Our office is located in Manchester-by-the-Sea, within walking distance of the MBTA Commuter Rail Rockport Line, making it accessible from Boston and the North Shore. Free parking is also available on-site.
What We’re Looking For
- 3 to 5 years of interior design experience, preferably focusing on Life Sciences, education, or commercial interiors.
- Proficiency in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong conceptual and spatial design skills, with the ability to communicate ideas effectively.
- Experience with hand sketching, material boards, and digital rendering techniques.
- Excellent graphic presentation skills, with attention to detail and composition.
- Detail-oriented and proactive, with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- A collaborative spirit—ready to learn, contribute, and grow in a supportive design environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture or a related field from an accredited program.
- Experience with technical interior environments, such as laboratories, research facilities, or high-performance workplaces.
- Strong understanding of FF&E specifications, code compliance, and sustainability practices.
- Progress toward NCIDQ certification is encouraged; LEED accreditation is a plus.
