We are seeking a highly motivated Interior Design Intern to join our team for the summer. This hands-on opportunity provides aspiring designers with experience across all phases of interior design—from conceptual development to construction administration.You’ll work alongside our talented team, gaining insight into design excellence, space planning, materiality, and project coordination while contributing to real-world projects.
Our Work
OLSON LEWIS + Architects designs interiors across a variety of sectors, including education, life sciences, residential, hospitality, commercial workplace design, and animal care.While interns typically contribute to residential, education, and life science interiors, we encourage candidates to share their specific interests so we can provide exposure to a broader range of project types.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with the interior design team to develop creative solutions for various project types.
- Assist in space planning, furniture layouts, and conceptual design.
- Support the selection and specification of finishes, furniture, lighting, and materials to align with the project vision.
- Develop and refine 3D models, renderings, and digital design files to communicate design intent.
- Prepare and update interior design presentations, including mood boards, material boards, and finish palettes.
- Work closely with architects and engineers to integrate interior elements seamlessly into the broader design.
- Assist in the development of construction documentation, millwork details, and FF&E specifications.
- Work with Marketing and Design Team on environmental graphics and graphic design elements.
- Contribute to client presentations, internal design reviews, and project coordination meetings.
- Support the design team with site visits and construction administration tasks, ensuring successful project execution.
Work Environment
Our team values collaboration and creativity, and we work best when we can connect in person. Interns will work in-office, as this provides the best opportunity for mentorship and hands-on learning.However, we offer flexibility, with many employees working Monday throughThursday in the office or remotely one to two days a week. Our office is located in Manchester-by-the-Sea, a short walk from the MBTA Commuter Rail Rockport Line, providing easy access from Boston and the North Shore.We also have free parking on-site.
What We’re Looking For
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
- Proficiency in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong conceptual and spatial design skills, with an ability to communicate ideas effectively.
- Experience with hand sketching, material boards, and digital rendering techniques.
- Excellent graphic presentation skills, with attention to composition and detail.
- Detail-oriented and proactive, with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- A collaborative spirit—ready to learn, contribute, and grow in a supportive design environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or co-op experience in an interior design or architecture firm.
